Presentation Summary: St Vincent’s Hospital Infectious Diseases Physician, Dr Jonathan Darby, will explore the history of COVID-19, its origins and comparisons to previous coronavirus strains, and subsequent progressive global spread of COVID-19 to the pandemic facing us today.

He will also look at previous pandemics and what we can learn from them; provide an insight into what new mutations may mean; he’ll cover vaccinations; and what the future holds for us all.  

Presenter: Dr Jonathan Darby, Infectious Diseases Physician, St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospitals, Melbourne. Jonathan has been heavily in St Vincent’s Infectious Diseases Unit COVID-19 response since the beginning of the pandemic. He is a graduate of St Vincent’s Hospital. He obtained his undergraduate qualifications from the University of Melbourne and has a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

He has a broad range of interests covering the spectrum of infectious diseases including community and hospital associated infections including tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and travellers health. He has research interests in tuberculosis, endocarditis, and appropriate use of antibiotics and in immune compromised patients.
