My name is Jemimah and I am a nurse at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee. I want to tell you about my experience as a scholarship recipient and how it changed the course of my career.
I received a St Vincent’s Nursing Excellence Scholarship to help me complete my postgraduate studies in Anaesthetics and Recovery.
Words cannot describe how helpful that support was at the time - not least how the scholarship eased any financial pressures I had.
With my post graduate qualification under my belt, I’ve really found my calling in Anaesthetics and Recovery nursing. It’s incredibly rewarding to support my patients in some of their most vulnerable and frightening moments. The learning experience was particularly valuable because I could immediately apply the specialised skills I gained in the classroom to my daily nursing practice, improving safety and comfort for my patients undergoing surgery.
There were so many other benefits that went above and beyond the studies themselves. I gained so much confidence in my clinical decision making and judgment. I also felt incredibly valued and supported by my hospital.
As a result, I’ve never felt more motivated in my work, whether that means contributing that little bit extra for my patients, or pushing myself to continue growing professionally. I know there are many other nurses who would be so grateful for a scholarship to launch the next stage in their career.
