The Genazzano Institute podcast series – She Knows It is now in full swing. The project is part of an exciting new collaboration between the Genazzano Institute and St Vincent’s Foundation which aims to promote women working in Health, Science, Engineering and Medicine.

The She Knows It podcast features women who work at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. It celebrates the work and careers of women who work in STEM and Health, focusing on the challenges and rewards women experience throughout their careers.

EPISODE 3: Sue Parkes - CEO of St Vincent’s Foundation – Victoria

Hear from St Vincent’s Foundation’s very own CEO, Sue Parkes as she discusses fundraising and philanthropy in health, sharing inspirational insights into her role as CEO of St Vincent’s Foundation, her career journey and why fundraising is so vital.

Sue has worked for some of Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisations including Vision Australia, Melbourne City Mission and most recently Cabrini Health. 

Health philanthropy became Sue’s passion after nearly seven years at Cabrini developing a grateful patient program focusing on physician led philanthropy. This strategy spearheaded the capital campaign at Cabrini which raised $40M for the Gandel Wing.

Sue believes that the care of our donors is part of St Vincent’s culture of care and an extension of the way in which we care for our patients.

EPISODE 2: A/Prof Claudia Di Bella

 

Hear from the incomparable Claudia Di Bella - St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne Orthopaedic surgeon, Joint arthroplasty and Oncology. Discover what inspired her to become an orthopaedic surgeon, the challenges she’s faced and the what drives her to stay on top of her craft.

Ms Di Bella is one of the few female orthopaedic surgeons in Australia. She is a specialist in the treatment of arthritis as well as bone and soft tissue tumors. She uses advanced robotic and navigation technologies, as well as 3D printing where required, to ensure maximum surgical precision and accuracy.

Her subsequent interests include:

  • Hip and knee joint replacement.
  • Bone and soft tissue tumor (sarcoma)
  • Orthobiologics (i.e. PRP injections)

EPISODE 1: Adjunct Associate Professor Helen Frazer

The very first episode features Dr Helen Frazer who shares insights into her passion for breast screening and cancer diagnosis. 

Dr Helen Frazer is the Clinical Director of St Vincent’s Hospital BreastScreen. She is a radiologist and breast cancer clinician with more than 20-years clinical experience.

As well as her impressive clinical work, Helen is also an AI-researcher. She heads up a team who are undertaking a world-first research study exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse mammograms. This ground-breaking work has earned her this year’s top accolade as Innovator of the Year at the Women in AI Awards Australia and New Zealand.
