THE EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMING NEUROLOGY CARE

Advanced equipment is essential for more accurate diagnosis, safer treatment and world-leading patient care.

Brain Mapping Software
Full cost: $700

What it does

This annually licenced software shows which areas of the brain are active during language, movement and visual tasks by tracking oxygen levels during an MRI scan.

Why it matters

It helps our clinicians map critical brain functions, so they can plan safer epilepsy surgery and protect vital neurological functions like speech, movement and sight.

High-Density EEG Caps
Full cost: $3,000

What it does

High-density electroencephalogram (EEG) caps record brain activity from up to 128 sites rather than the usual 20, allowing clinicians to precisely  pinpoint where seizures begin.

Why it matters

Additional cap sizes will help our clinicians get the correct fit to each patient’s head, resulting in more  accurate recordings and advanced testing for everyone who needs it.

Seizure-safe recliner chair
Full cost: $5,000

What it does

A specialised electroencephalogram (EEG) recliner supports patients during monitoring, helping them rest or fall asleep (when seizure activity is often most likely to be detected)

Why it matters

Unlike standard chairs, this recliner can safely lay a patient flat during a seizure, improving safety and ensuring clinicians can capture the most accurate brain activity.

At Home Video-EEG Monitoring Equipment
Full cost: $34,000

What it does

This diagnostic system enables video-electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring at home, recording both brain activity and moving image to help diagnose seizures and identify where they begin.

Why it matters

With waiting times of 6-12 months for in-hospital monitoring, at-home testing allows more patients to be assessed sooner, while ensuring hospital care is prioritised for those who need it most.

Danni's story: a second chance at life

Danni was living in a state of constant fear for several years – experiencing seizures every seven minutes.

After a string unsuccessful diagnoses from other hospitals, specialist care at St Vincent’s finally helped identify the cause of her seizures which led to Danni's life-changing surgery.

Today, Danni is seizure-free and enjoys a renewed sense of independence travelling with her husband.

Please help advance epilepsy care at St Vincent's

Your donation will help fund this vital equipment and technology to support St Vincent's Neurology team and help more patients live seizure-free.
