Honouring Russell Davey: A Legacy of Strength & Hope
In memory of our beloved Russell Davey, we invite you to make a donation to the Australian Scleroderma Interest Group (ASIG), a subsidiary of St Vincent's Foundation in lieu of flowers. Your contribution will support vital research aimed at finding a cure for scleroderma, a rare and life-threatening condition that Russell fought with unwavering courage.
What is Scleroderma?
Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the hardening and thickening of connective tissues, affecting the skin, internal organs, mobility, and breathing. Over 6,000 people across Australia are living with scleroderma right now, facing a condition that shortens life expectancy by more than 20 years and can be life-threatening. Despite its severity, there is currently no cure.
Scleroderma: The Facts
- Scleroderma is often misdiagnosed, delaying critical treatment.
- Women make up one-third of diagnosed cases, and one-quarter are men.
- The Australian Scleroderma Interest Group (ASIG) is leading cutting-edge research to improve treatments, understand the disease, and work towards a cure.
- ASIG brings together Australia’s top scleroderma specialists and researchers to improve early diagnosis and develop life-saving treatments.
Russell’s Story: A Fighter for Change
Russell was diagnosed with scleroderma on the very day of his retirement. Instead of stepping into a well-earned period of rest, he faced an unforeseen battle that lasted nine years. Despite the challenges, Russell never stopped fighting—not just for himself, but for others battling this disease.
A true advocate, Russell participated in groundbreaking scleroderma research and became an international spokesperson, courageously sharing his journey to raise awareness and inspire donations. His determination to make a difference will continue through the work he supported.
Please Donate in Russell’s Honour
We can carry forward Russell’s legacy by funding critical research to find a cure. Donations to ASIG will support:
* Life-changing research into the causes and treatment of scleroderma.
* Early diagnosis efforts to improve patient outcomes.
* Support for specialists like Dr. Wendy Stevens, Russell’s Rheumatologist and the Secretary of ASIG, who is deeply committed to advancing scleroderma research.
By donating in Russell’s memory, you’re helping create a future where others diagnosed with scleroderma can live longer, fuller lives.
Donate today and be part of the cure.
Thank you for honouring Russell Davey’s strength, advocacy, and unwavering hope.
