Danni's second chance at life
For years, Danni lived with seizures every seven minutes. Day and night.
Simple everyday tasks became impossible. Unable to drive. Unable to take a shower alone. Unable to prepare dinner for her family without supervision.
"I was alive, but I had absolutely no quality of life," Danni said. "I was totally dependent on everyone around me."
Living with epilepsy had taken away Danni's independence, confidence and freedom.
After years of misdiagnosis and unanswered questions, Danni came to St Vincent's Hispital Melbourne, where Professor Mark Cook AO and the Neurology team discovered the lesions in her brain responsible for her seizures.
The surgery Danni needed was highly complex. Her chance of becoming seizure-free was just 2%.
But Danni also knew the cost of doing nothing.
"I had reached the point where I could not keep living the way I was living," she said.
She is travelling Australia with her husband. She is driving again. She has regained the independence and quality of life she feared she had lost forever.
“The surgery gave me a second chance at life,” Danni said.
Every year, patients living with epilepsy come to St Vincent’s searching for answers, hope and the possibility of a better future.
