Powering social connection

George was brought into St Vincent’s with difficulty breathing and a high temperature. As he was considered possible COVID upon admission, he was unable to see his family for the first three days of his hospital stay.

While waiting for his COVID-19 results, George was able to connect with his family through St Vincent’s Virtual Visitor Program, which was designed to give isolated patients the opportunity to connect with their loved ones through video chat.

"The video chat was amazing and it greatly reduced our anxiety. The nurses were really helpful and the doctors were calling regularly with an update on my dad’s condition,’ George’s daughter Lily said. ‘They were really good, it made it easier as we were unable to see him."

"Now he’s coming home, it turns out he had pneumonia. He looks much better than when he first came in," Lily said.
