A team of 15 nurses have been rostered 12 hours a day, seven days a week to operate the new St Vincent’s COVID-19 Advice Line.
So far, they have taken over 16,000 calls giving acute clinical advice, mental health referrals, family violence referrals and advice on staff wellbeing.
The team have taken a wide variety of calls including:
- Assisted a woman who is a victim of domestic violence
- Tracked down a homeless person with no mobile phone number to give them their results
- Assisted a housebound elderly woman with an intellectual disability to find a provider to do her swab
- Successfully implemented a messaging system to deliver pathology results
Registered Nurse Megan McCutcheon is proud of the work the team have done. 'I feel like we’ve really supported the community and the staff at the hospital,' Megan said.
